Editorial Standards & Methodology

PR
PocketRuler Financial Desk

At PocketRuler.app, we build free, client-side financial calculators and publish data-driven content to help solopreneurs, digital nomads, and independent consultants make informed decisions. This page outlines our editorial standards, data sources, calculation methodologies, and correction policies to ensure transparency and trust.

Our Mission

We demystify complex financial calculations by providing accurate, easy-to-use tools that run entirely in your browser — no data leaves your device. Our content aims to educate with real-world examples, actionable insights, and unbiased analysis.

Content Sourcing & Creation

  1. Topic Selection: We identify high-value financial questions through keyword research, user feedback, and emerging trends in freelancing, entrepreneurship, and personal finance.
  2. Data Collection: We gather data from reputable sources including government databases (BLS, IRS, OECD), industry reports (Upwork, Toptal, Levels.fyi), and primary sources (SaaS pricing pages, Numbeo).
  3. Analysis: Our financial desk normalizes data to current USD, adjusts for cost of living, and applies statistical methods to produce median ranges and confidence intervals.
  4. Writing: Articles are written by subject-matter experts with disclosure of any potential conflicts. We avoid AI boilerplate phrases and prioritize original analysis.
  5. Calculator Integration: Each article includes contextual links to relevant calculators, with examples that demonstrate real-world usage.
  6. Review: Content undergoes internal review for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with AdSense policies before publication.

Calculator Verification Process

Every calculator on PocketRuler.app follows a rigorous verification process to ensure accuracy:

  1. Formula Derivation: We start with established financial formulas (e.g., for tax calculations, investment growth, loan amortization) and adapt them to specific use cases.
  2. Variable Sourcing: All inputs (tax rates, inflation rates, platform fees) are sourced from official publications or primary vendor documentation.
  3. Edge Case Testing: We test boundary conditions (zero values, extreme inputs) and compare results against known benchmarks or manual calculations.
  4. Peer Review: Another team member reviews the code and formulas for correctness.
  5. User Feedback Loop: We monitor user reports and update calculators when discrepancies are found.

Data Sources

We prioritize primary and authoritative sources. Below is a non-exhaustive list of sources we regularly use:

Correction & Updates Policy

We strive for accuracy but acknowledge that data changes and errors can occur. Our policy:

  1. Error Reporting: Users can report inaccuracies via the contact form or email. Each report is logged and investigated.
  2. Correction Timeline: Verified errors are corrected within 5 business days. Updates include a changelog note at the bottom of the page.
  3. Content Updates: We revisit popular articles and calculators every 3-6 months to refresh data, add new insights, and improve explanations.
  4. Versioning: Major updates increment the IRONFORGE_VERSION and update the “Last Modified” date.
